Suresh Ramasamy
George Town, Penang
I came to Thornbridge during a period where everything felt uncertain. What helped most was not the legal outcome alone — though that was handled well — but the fact that I was kept informed at every step. I never had to chase for an update.

Lim Chooi Yeng
Butterworth, Penang
The advice was honest — including when the news was not what I had hoped to hear. I appreciated that more than reassurances that turned out not to match reality. The fees were also clearly explained upfront, no surprises on the invoice.
Marital property advisory — February 2025

Georgetown, Penang
The contested proceedings were difficult by nature — I do not think any solicitor can make that experience easy. But Thornbridge handled it with a measured approach that I think made the final position more workable for both parties. That mattered to me.
Contested proceedings — January 2025
Tan Kok Heng
Penang Hill area
I had tried another firm before coming here and found the experience frustrating — updates were rare and the bills were difficult to understand. The difference at Thornbridge was noticeable from the first meeting. Everything was documented and explained.
Marital property advisory — March 2025
Yasmin Shahida
Bayan Lepas, Penang
The plain-language notes accompanying the documents were genuinely useful. I am not from a legal background and I had worried I would not fully understand what I was agreeing to. The notes made that less of a concern, and I felt I could ask questions without feeling like I was wasting anyone's time.
Variation matter — February 2025
Prakash Kumar
Air Itam, Penang
The work on my variation application was handled carefully. My situation was not straightforward — the circumstances had changed considerably from the original arrangement — and the team took time to understand all of that before advising on the best approach. The outcome was better than I had expected going in.

In Practice
Details have been generalised to preserve confidentiality. These accounts describe the shape of matters rather than the individuals involved.
Challenge
A couple entering marriage had different views on how their respective properties — some acquired before, some expected to be acquired during — should be treated. The existing arrangement they had discussed informally was not documented, and there was some uncertainty about how the relevant provisions of Malaysian law applied to their situation.
Approach
The engagement began with separate meetings to understand each party's position and priorities before drafting commenced. A clear explanation of the applicable legal framework was provided in writing. Several rounds of drafting followed over five weeks, with time allowed between each for review and discussion.
Outcome
A marital property arrangement was finalised that both parties had read, understood, and agreed to without pressure. The couple reported that the process had also been useful in clarifying their broader financial plans, which had not been a stated objective at the outset.
Duration: 7 weeks
Challenge
A parent sought variation of an existing care schedule following a significant change in employment that altered their working hours and the availability of childcare. The other parent did not agree that the change in circumstances was sufficient to warrant a formal variation.
Approach
Correspondence was prepared setting out the changed circumstances with supporting documentation. The communication was drafted in terms that recognised the other party's position rather than dismissing it, with a view to reaching an agreed variation without formal proceedings if possible. When that route did not resolve the matter, a formal application was prepared.
Outcome
The matter was resolved following mediation, with a revised schedule agreed by consent before the hearing date. The client described the resolution as workable for both parties. The tone of the correspondence was later noted by the mediator as having contributed to the constructive atmosphere of the session.
Duration: 14 weeks
Challenge
Contested proceedings relating to a matrimonial home and maintenance, where both parties held strong and opposing views and earlier correspondence between their respective solicitors had become adversarial in tone. The client was concerned that the process was becoming more damaging than the underlying issues warranted.
Approach
A measured communication strategy was established from the outset, with a deliberate change in tone from the preceding correspondence. The client was briefed in writing before each stage. The preparation of pleadings and supporting documentation was thorough, and the client's position was presented to the court in a structured and factual manner.
Outcome
A court determination was made that addressed the property and maintenance questions. The client noted that the manner in which the proceedings were conducted had preserved a level of civility that made subsequent co-parenting arrangements more manageable than had seemed possible at the start of the engagement.
